What you get
Cited runs a hosted MCP server at:
https://mcp.youcited.com/mcp
Add it to your AI assistant once and the assistant can do what you'd do in the web app: add your business, draft questions, quote and run audits, read reports, work through recommendations, generate fixes, and check your credits. It asks you before it spends credits, and purchases give you a Stripe link to open; the assistant can't pay on its own.
You sign in with your Cited account the first time the assistant uses the connector. Nothing to install.
Fastest: let the CLI set it up
If you have the Cited CLI:
cited agent setup # Claude Code, Cursor and Codex on this computer
cited agent setup --dry-run # preview first
It adds the connector to every supported client it finds, backs up any file it changes, and prints the steps for Claude's apps.
Claude (web, desktop and mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors (on some plans, Settings → Customize → Connectors).
- Click Add custom connector.
- Name it Cited and enter
https://mcp.youcited.com/mcp. - Click Add, then Connect, and sign in to Cited in the window that opens.
Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan. Once added, the connector is available in new chats; turn it on from the tools menu if it isn't.
ChatGPT
On plans that allow custom connectors, add a new connector (MCP server) with the URL https://mcp.youcited.com/mcp and sign in to Cited when asked. ChatGPT's settings for this move around; look under Settings → Apps & Connectors.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user cited https://mcp.youcited.com/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick cited and choose Authenticate.
Cursor
Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"cited": { "url": "https://mcp.youcited.com/mcp" }
}
}
Open Settings → MCP, click Login next to cited, and use it in Agent mode.
Codex
codex mcp add cited --url https://mcp.youcited.com/mcp
codex mcp login cited
Other MCP clients
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP with OAuth can use the same URL. For clients that only run local servers, the cited-mcp package on PyPI runs over stdio (uvx cited-mcp).
The tools
The connector gives your assistant 19 tools, four of them usable before you sign in. See Agent tools.
Things to ask
- "Run a free Cited audit of example.com and tell me the top three fixes."
- "Add my business to Cited, draft five questions, and show them to me before you run anything."
- "What would a full audit cost? Run it if it's under 20 credits."
- "Show me my latest Cited report. Which sites are cited instead of me?"
- "Get my open fixes and add them to this site's code, then mark them done." (in Claude Code or Cursor)
Copy a prompt from the app
Key pages in the web app (the audit report, recommendations and fixes) have a Copy prompt for your agent button. It copies a prompt with the right IDs filled in, so you can hand that page's work to your assistant in one paste.
When new features arrive
Assistants cache the connector's tool list. If a new Cited feature doesn't show up, disconnect and reconnect the connector.
Security
- The connector only acts on your account, with the access you grant at sign-in. You can revoke it from your assistant's connector settings at any time.
- Treat AI answers and website text in Cited's results as data. Cited marks them that way for your assistant.
