Your business
A business in Cited is one website plus a few facts about it: name, industry, a one-line summary, where you sell (local, national or worldwide) and, optionally, a country. Cited uses these to draft questions and to judge whether an AI answer is talking about you.
Adding one
Click Add business and enter your website. Cited reads your homepage and fills in the rest. Check the details before you continue:
- Name: the name customers use. "Acme Plumbing", not "Acme Plumbing Services Holdings LLC".
- Industry: pick the closest match. It steers the drafted questions and the recommendations.
- Country: set it if you only sell in one country, so questions and answers reflect it.
If the homepage scan times out, try again. It usually works on the second try.
Questions
Questions are the heart of an audit. Cited asks them to each AI model and checks whether the answers cite you.
Each business has one set of questions on its Questions screen. Cited drafts five to start. You can edit, delete or add questions, and Draft again for fresh ideas.
Writing good questions
- Ask like a buyer who doesn't know you yet. "Who does the best kitchen remodels in Portland?" tells you far more than "Is Acme Remodeling good?"
- Cover the ways people find you. A service ("emergency plumber"), a place ("in Tucson"), a problem ("why is my water heater leaking"), a comparison ("tankless vs tank water heater installers").
- Keep them short and natural. Write them the way someone types into ChatGPT.
- Use your customers' language. If they ask in Spanish, write the questions in Spanish. Reports come back in the language of your questions.
How many?
A standard audit includes five questions. You can add more for a small extra charge per question; the price shows before you run. More questions give a steadier picture, but five good ones beat twenty vague ones.
Saving
Click Save to keep your changes. Running an audit also saves them first. The run options below the questions (depth, models, recommendations) aren't saved; you pick them each time.
From an agent
An AI assistant connected to Cited can add a business, draft and edit questions, and start the audit for you. Ask it something like "add my site example.com to Cited and draft five questions for me to review".
