## What a fix is

A fix is the set of files that carries out one recommendation, plus one guide that tells you where to put them. Cited never changes your website itself: you, your developer or your AI agent add the files.

Typical fix files:

- **llms.txt:** a plain summary of your site for AI, with links to your key pages.
- **robots.txt rules:** the exact lines to let AI search bots in.
- **Schema markup (JSON-LD):** Organization, LocalBusiness, FAQPage, Product and similar blocks with your real details filled in.
- **HTML snippets:** FAQ blocks, meta titles and descriptions, Open Graph tags.
- **Page outlines:** the headings and points for a page you're missing, for you to write in your own words.

## The guide

Each fix has one implementation guide. When Cited can tell which platform runs your site (WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix or Webflow), the guide includes the steps for that platform. Otherwise it gives the general steps.

## Making fixes

- **One at a time:** open a recommendation and click to generate its fix.
- **All at once:** **Generate all fixes** makes a fix for every open recommendation.

Each paid audit includes a number of fixes; after that each extra fix costs a small amount. The price shows before anything is charged. See the [pricing page](/pricing).

## From ready to working

Each fix moves through four stages:

| Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Ready** | The files and guide are ready. Follow the guide to add them to your site. |
| **Done** | You've added the fix to your site. |
| **Verified** | Cited checked your live site and found the fix there. |
| **Working** | A later audit shows the questions it targets are now citing you more. |

Click **Verify on my site** after you add a fix. Cited fetches the page and looks for the change. If it isn't there yet you'll see "Not on your live site yet": check that the change is published and any cache is cleared, then **Check again**. Some fixes, like a page you write from an outline, have nothing Cited can check automatically; mark those done once they're live.

## Handing fixes to an agent

If your site lives in a code repository, an AI coding agent such as Claude Code or Cursor can add the fixes for you. Connect it to Cited (see [Connect your AI assistant](/docs/integration-guides/connect-your-ai-assistant)) and ask it to "get my open Cited fixes and add them to this site, then mark them done". Review its changes before you publish.
